Speaking of book adaptations, anyone have any good Biblical movie adaptations?

I'm a big fan of Prince of Egypt if that helps.

The 70s Gatsby movie wasn't awful. Not great at all but Redford and Farrow have a lot of movie star charm. They didn't really nail the tone of the book but at least they didn't turn it into a 90s music video the way Baz Luhrmann appears to have done.

i didnt think the movie was awful, i just dont like the whole story line. it irked me, and reminded me of some of the things i hate most in people.

i liked redford, and i thought waterston was superb. farrow made me absolutely nauseous, so i guess she did a good job. the style of acting has changed greatly over the years, and that older more "acty" way of acting dos not appeal to me as much. as well, i thought it was unnecessarily long. a lot of the still odd shots of various items or people were a bore imo, and didnt add anything to the movie for me.

im sure it will be way OTT, but i look forward to the upcoming one.

It's kind of blasphemy though. I'm thinking more accurate adaptations.

I disagree with the "blasphemy" reaction. That reaction was only had by people who didn't see the movie. I find that it depicts the emotional and psychological pain Jesus was probably going through. It is more his perspective than of his followers. I didn't find it offensive at all, rather interesting and intrigueing.

^ Well, that's why I said "kind of" blasphemy. I'm sure it is an interesting film but as often the case with true story adaptations, certain....liberties are usually taken.

you are not missing a whole lot. i read that it very closely follows the story, cant imagine it adds anything.
do you plan on seeing the upcoming one with leo?

It may have followed the story, but that doesn't guarantee a quality product. As for the new movie: I dunno.

Currently watching Auschwitz : Inside the Nazi State. BBC documentary. Very interesting, but can watch only so much at a time. Pretty heavy handed.

Imhoff, I've seen that. I felt that it was a very intricate and sensitive documentary.
