Today marked the start of autumn, and a national holiday in Japan to celebrate the Autumnal Equinox.
It was a good day to wear my Bostonian Crown Windsor shell LWBs.

The long work week beckoned the classic 93602s.

Picked up these Bostonian Crown Windsor for under $10. Great quality shoe, fits like a glove. Shoes have been recently resoled. The uppers have a few scratches and superficial cracks, and the right shoe had a dark stain that I can't remove (rubbed it with acetone for a while and it's not working).

I now have them stripped of finish and much of color, and going to sand down the cracks, give them the glycerin treatment, and dye them black to cover up the stain. More photos to come.

Happy Monday and the start of fall. The approach of winter is tough on the vintage shoe crowd as we see fewer vintage boots. But while the weather is still nice, its time for Florsheim shell.

Sorry to bring the mold topic back again but recently acquired these Sears (by Hanover I believe) Saddle Shoes. They were quite moldy. I used diluted vinegar and then diluted alcohol inside/outside to remove the visible layer. Then renomat, saddle soap and bick 4. Moldy smell still remains and quite strong. Today I left outside on the sun with vinegar soaked rags inside. Plan to repeat for a few more days, maybe leave a layer of sodium bicarbonate powder also after vinegar dries. Any other suggestions for the smell? Pictures are after using vinegar but before everything else. They do look a lot better now, besides the moldy smell.

I think same as this:

A new set of cedar shoe trees (or lightly sanded older ones) can do wonders against lingering mold and mildew smell.

I would try a weak solution of bleach & water. I’d get them wet inside and out, let that set for 10 minutes, then use a wet rag (water) to remove any excess bleach. Then I’d let them dry in the sun.
