Growing up in Olympia, Wa. I've run into tons of...oh wait, no I haven't. I have never run into a celebrity of any sort. Ever.

But all my friends seem to have. Roommates in college with John Singleton, dinner party with Benazir Bhutto. Etc etc.

Not me but a buddy ran into Hank WIlliams Jr. in a bar in Indianapolis. My friend was in the bathroom taking a piss, when Hank sidled up the urinal next to him and said:

"Hey buddy, you know any women in this bar that would suck on this dick?"

I find this story crude, hilarous and disturbing all at once.

My respect for Hank Williams Jr. just increased tenfold.

Well, I know and have met quite a lot of celebrities and royalty, but I suppose that doesn't count as an unexpected encounter. Still, I have a few good ones. - When I was a little kid I was at a party and Karl Lagerfeld was there. I apparently screamed and cried upon seeing him, and I can understand why. - When I was 12 I was walking down a street in Johannesburg with my father and a friend of his, when we saw a crowd. We approached it, and in the centre was Nelson Mandela. We shook hands (naturally, the South African way) and exchanged a couple of words. This is unquestionably my favourite, although I'm not sure if he's a celebrity. - A couple of weeks ago Pierre Casiraghi punched me in the face, leaving a black eye for a whole week. To be fair, I already knew him, but it was funny regardless.

You'd prefer if I lied about my background? It was perfectly on topic, and not intended to come across as bragging: if it had, I would have begun listing names. I made it clear that meeting someone famous (eg. at a party) doesn't really count as an "unexpected encounter". However, I remember you were also quite uneccesarily rude to me in another thread, so perhaps that's just your demeanour rather than a flaw in my actions. Aside from that, I don't really mind being compared to SoCal.

It was my understanding from watching the TV magazine Entertainment Tonight that encounters with celebrities are not unexpected in America but a matter of personal liberty.
