Indeed. Although she looks far better now that she's dropped some pounds.

She is Canadian? Did not know that. And Spike is too? I honestly dislike Spike, and while it's impossible to really know without tasting his food, he does not seem to be that great of a chef.

Not sure what this proves, but Spike was on Iron Chef and got smoked by Michael Symon. Lots of challengers lose by one or two points but Spike lost 45-55.

Padma is annoying. She has no credentials as a food critic or as a cook. Every ounce of credibility and cachet that she's developed for herself are by an accident of birth. She was a high caste, very beautiful woman. That's it.

It's difficult for Tom C. to sit next to someone who is fairly incompetent and listen to their ramblings about a complicated and nuanced topic, of which they know preciously little about. She's gotten much, much better through experience, but she's still very much an amateur on the topics in question. She was also drunk at that taping.

I remember seeing Kelly Lyken, not this season but she's the only other TC I personally recall.

Also, has Blais been a contestant? I remember him cooking as one of the sous (I forget for whom).

Yes I saw him on a re-run recently, battle Chickpeas against Batali.

it was typical reality casting. she was a hot model who had written a couple of half-assed cookbooks and, let's face it, as much as I love tom c, that is not a face that is going to carry a television show.
i like gail a lot (just met her a couple times, don't know her). i think she's got a kind of real world, girl-next-door appeal. and she's pretty smart and likes food. she seems like a sweetie.

they have had, let us say, arch words on camera. their un-edited chemistry is pretty famously not good.

Tom has this look where he sort of fixes his eyes straight ahead and suppresses a smile... he's done that many times while she's talking. I love when she tries to speak italian or say a word in french... I can just feel Tom rolling his eyes.
