Tipped versus untipped ties

I see some expensive ties marketed enthusiastically as tipped or self-tipped.

I see other expensive ties marketed enthusiastically as untipped.

All of my ties have two tips (the fat end and the narrow end) so the makers of these ties clearly must be talking about something else. My question: what's the difference and why should I care?

Here you go. And in truth you probably shouldn't care. Some companies do a self tipping as an added touch. Some do a printed silk or artificial materiel with their logo. Some go tipless. As long as the tie looks alright in the front when knotted its not really that important.

Thanks! That was a very informative post, and I had missed it during my search before posting.

So tipping is purely aesthetic? Do you happen to have a picture of an untipped tie where the lining is visible?

I have some damaged ties, I think I may need to take them apart
