"Wall Street crisis kill demand for his tight, geeky "Pee-wee Herman" outfits,"

He looks so sad in those shorts.

Interesting: "In one potential deal under discussion in recent weeks, Thom Browne would sell a 60 percent stake in itself in exchange for a $3 million investment from Individualized Apparel Group, the New York-based owner of the Oxxford men's suiting line."

yeah, looks like he's one of many feeling the crunch from this recession.

His mainline may be pinched, but the Brooks Brothers deal seems pretty secure, I doubt that TB look is going to go away.

Writers get paid to be dramatic! He is widely influential though. Savior? I dont think so...

I'm betting TB's look will be remembered as a ridiculous fad within a couple of years, if not sooner.

This is an unfortunate but inevitable event.

In boom times niche designers and shopkeepers can flourish, but in a recession people stick with the basics. The draconian Thom Browne look is the very definition of a fad, and not something people look to invest in for the long term.

It's a shame though, because while opinions on TB are all over the place, I respect his desire to shake things up in the staid world of menswear. If he's forced to give up control of his company to a large conglomerate, his designs may be forced to become just as vanilla as everyone else's.

I wonder why was he in so much debt? It's not like he had freestanding stores to build and run, etc.

pants that end mid-shin? I can see that. Slimmer jackets with narrower lapels and shorter length? I dont think so.

2007 to 2008 will be remembered as the time of the (name of brick and mortar retailer) x (name of designer of the moment) collaborations.

Runway collections. They were all made by the really expensive tailors in LIC, and he'd have around 50 different looks. HUGE money, I can only imagine the cost of these.

Like Uniqlo x Steven Alan for example..... I just saw that one when i was downtown. But who is Steven Alan? And for that matter, who is Opening Ceremony (another Uniqlo collaboration)?

Sorry... for thread hijack

But then isn't that Bergdorf and the other retailers' problem?

I thought his office/studio or whatever was for custom orders only.
