White gold on an Aquanaut seems a bit incongruous to me especially with a non-traditional dial color. But I agree that it looks great.

I don’t mind the white gold. But the current Aquanaut is lame in my opinion, including this rendition. The 5065 was a really fun watch. I personally think it was a better design than the Nautilus. Especially in yellow gold. But all the wonderful details of that watch disappeared in the 5167 and this larger version. The dial is so boring now and cheap looking. And the bigger sizes loses all of the elegance of the original.

I like the movement. It’s the same as in my 33mm Calatrava. The case shape really hides well how small that movement is for such a large case. On any other watch the small movement would get a lot of hate I think. But Patek is the master of fitting small movements in big watches.

I agree with all of the above about Aquanauts, except for it being a better design than the Nautilus. I still prefer the 3700, 5711, and 5712/1A to all versions of the Aquanaut.

The 5712 is the only current Patek, I like that uses an old, smaller movement in a big case. I remember when that movement was used in the 35 mm Patek 5015 and 5054. It works surprisingly well in the 5712 due to its case shape, dial size, and bezel. Patek may be the master of fitting small movements in big watches, but it generally pisses me off when I see that in their other watches.

It's surprising how not Rolex-dominated the discussions ITT are.

The green Aquanaut as well as green FPJ are abominations, worse even than the thankfully discontinued Hulk. They all look like toy watches.

What is the general consensus with the quartz Cartier Santos Dumont?

I know the watch community loves to **** on quartz watches, but I think Cartier did an excellent job with their 6 yr battery life and in house movement, also the watch is simply beautiful.

I'm talking about the reference model WSAA0022.

Interested in hearing some thoughts on this watch.

I would be very hard pressed to buy quartz watch for a sizable sum of money. There are exceptions, but those generally have more to do with other features of the watch, rather than them having a quartz movement.

As for the Santos Dumont, Cartier has made many beautiful iterations of that watch over the years and I bought one of the CPCP editions for my wife a few years ago. You can find manual wind versions well under $5,000, and if price is the main driver I would advocate saving up for the mechanical version over the quartz.

Again, the movement nor the price is my main concern. I think Cartier has not made the same iteration of the model WSAA0022 with a mechanical movement. I like the watch for it's aesthetics primarily, it's thinner and IMHO more refined than the WSSA0009 model, it is IMO more of a dress watch, if they told you it was a mechanical movement you'd probably have the same opinion, maybe?
