They'll sometimes ship boots in two boxes, sometimes in one. Shipping is calculated by wheight anyways. But they don't have boot boxes, that's a fact. Probably they shipped in two boxes because it's a size 45+

@techaview: great looking pair of shoes, I actually have a very similar makeup in the works.

So my latest Vass make up is done and has arrived. They are made accordingly to my feet measurement when I visited them in Budapest during May this year. Initially, I opt for S last but turned out the fit is way off. Plus I realized the proportional of S last doesn't seem to fit the design I have in mind too well (elongated toe cap).... I have them remake in U last instead and they turned up well within my expectation. Design inspired from Stephane Jimenezbottier's Roxanne... Captoe derby in red cognac
Really good looking derbies, congrats! Is the broguing patina'd or is the stitching just made with a dark thread? If it's a patina, did you have Vass do it?

I am considering having a pair of Vass norwegers/split toes made for next fall. Probably dark brown scotchgrain. I am having real trouble deciding the last (will take care of sizing etc when Vass come to Stockholm for a trunk show next time, but they are usually so crowded that I can't think about aesthetics, so I want that sorted before hand). I prefer chunkier lasts, my favorite is the Alden Barrie. What would the experts here recommend? If anybody has pictures with the name of the last to share, I would be thankful.

The Peter last is an alternative, it was built with Norweger shoes in mind. It is a more symmetric last than the P2, but perhaps not chunky enough.

Great advice guys. I did some more thorough research and the P2 looks really looks great. Hopefully it also fits well. Now I just have to wait until the next trunk show rolls into town. Considering a pair of alt weins as well.

Out of curiosity, is the P2 a classic Austro-Hungarian last shape? I am just getting into this part of the shoe world, and it seems quite distinct.

I think budapester last is the most authentic classic shape, with its high, flat toebox. P2 is like a contoured, blended version.

Someone else will know better than I, though.

I'm not necessarily looking for the most authentic, as style comes before tradition for me. But I like the idea of a modern evolution of a classic last, and it feels right to buy something that is particular to that maker, like Alden and its take on cordovan.

Edit: what sole would one commonly choose for this type of shoe? Double leather?

I have heard Vass used to be handwelted. Is that till the case?
