Yes; custom duties.Am I missing something? ....After lurking this thread for some time I have finally gone ahead with ordering. I thought I'd deal with Vass directly and then compare total cost and ease of transaction to working with a proxy on future orders. Dealing with Vass has been surprisingly simple and pleasant, but I'm starting to have my doubts re: any cost savings. My inquiry: London model with stitched uppers, F-last, 6125 dark cognac calf, double to single sole, flush metal toe taps Cost: 420 euro + 30 (trees) + 20 (toe plates) + 35 shipping (Fedex) = 505 euros ($675 CAD/USD) Even using CurrencyFair (which I signed up for after reading some positive press) and assuming a miracle of no duties/brokerage fees (which has never happened for me for anything marked > $20 and I order overseas or from the US all the time), it looks like proxies win (assuming they still run at $650). Maybe that assumption is wrong and you can forget this whole thing.
Ha ha. A little weird they definitely are. Thanks!Agree - have ogled those three-tone oxford budapesters many a time on eBay! Frank, your weird oiled olives look even more awesome on the foot. Real ****-kickers in the most exclusive-looking and cool way possible. That's a real win right there.
Great looking. Thanks for the extra photo. Those Kermit shoes are fantastic! Green would never have occurred to me, but those look terrific with jeans. This place is dangerous. Yes, the Budapesters are U-last, the double-monks are K. Here's one shot on-foot - having a little extra fun with the socks:
What's the feel like of the scotchgrain from Vass? Is it a soft leather? I recently got a pair of scotchgrain boots from another maker, my first experience with the leather, and it is a fairly hard leather. Durable, though, I'd think. My first pair of Vass. Theresianer High Boot in Cognac Scotchgrain, F-last, Vibram sole - by far the best fit in a RTW last.
I have a question:
Do the shoe trees only come in full sizes? I ordered my boots in a size 41.5 and the trees included are labeled a 41. That is assuming the boots I ordered are indeed a 41.5. They fit perfectly, nonetheless.
I've done the same math to Canada. Duty on shoes is 18 percent I think which offsets VAT deduction. I've used a proxy as I keep seeing a wash in the delivered cost. In addition FedEx seems to add random brokerage fees which can add up. Please let us know whaurgeur final cost is as a point of reference. After lurking this thread for some time I have finally gone ahead with ordering. That price is more than fair for the apparent quality, but I've just always thought there was a premium when dealing with proxies.
I would say the scotchgrain is relatively soft; the lining, however, is very soft. The outer leather is pliable but definitely has a certain amount of toughness - after one wear for approximately two hours the shaft has already conformed well to my lower leg. I purchased these for foul weather use - and everyday use as well - so I expect the leather to hold its own. Time will tell. What's the feel like of the scotchgrain from Vass? Is it a soft leather? Thank you - I'll make sure to enjoy them. I'm already planning my second purchase. Vass may become my primary source of shoes. Mr. Kuti is a pleasure to deal with, the prices are very reasonable, the order and delivery at 4 weeks is impressive, and the shoes themselves are fantastic. All in all a very good experience. Thanks for the details. They look great. Enjoy.
