This might demonstrate better. You can more clearly see the stitching here, and its relationship to the edge of the welt / sole.

I used to wear them once a week at least.

The sole is getting pretty thin at the ball of my foot, and I sense that it is getting a little "spongey".

I don't wear them often anymore, so I have neglected to look into my resoling options. Also, I've fallen out of favour with Vass due to the inconsistencies in sizing, and my new preference for less aggressive lasts.

One thing comes to mind with all this crazy talk of welts and soles and rear shots the past few pages:

In full disclosure, I often consider myself in that same category Ogre is discussing.

I can't really say it's essential. Fun to discuss sure. But sometimes getting into such small details can take the fun out of things. A small touch of naivety can be a good thing on occasion.

I didn't say not important, but I don't think it's essential. How important it is to one person may be different to another. We're talking incredibly small details on a shoe here.

If the welt and the inseam are the "backbone" of the shoe...and a case can be made, especially when the shoe is hand welted...then trimming the welt too narrow is getting close to destroying the shoe. Or at least forcing a re-welting and all that entails.

Someone mentioned it not long ago on this thread, and I agree. I think it was yesterday.
I have tried the same size in the same last. One was big; one was small. WTF?

also, someone else mentioned that one have to understand his feet and then the various lasts - doing their homework. seriously, how many shoe purchases have you fwocked up already? your learning curve on this is flater than the dutch mountains, but you're never afraid of a shout out, wtf.

You still haven't explained how a shoe in the same last can be both too large and too small while being the same size. Perhaps you got a bit of extra paprika in your eye this morning, so you aren't able to see what I'm saying.
