Don't be fooled—sure, in daylight and direct sun, it looks very blue. But it's not. And in artificial light it is very dark. Using this cloth to make an ordinary suit would be a waste.

Here's a shot of it taken at The Bellagio a while back. And you can see the waistcoat in this shot, too.

I have a question. What would you do with a boutonniere? Just pin it through the lapel? Are you concerned with leaving a hole?

My peak lapel jackets have buttonholes and I'll pin a boutonnière through the buttonhole. My shawl lapels do not have buttonholes and I will not make holes in my lapels by sticking a pin through them, so I don't wear anything like a pin or a boutonnière with a shawl lapel.

Noted, thank you. I'm looking at a DB 4x1 with a nice, classic shawl, but I like to sport a boutonniere when wearing a tux, so I may just nix the whole plan altogether.

Wasn't it voxsartoria's rule that three piece DJs should be worn unbuttoned?

I knew I read that somewhere. I like that rule... but I also prefer two pieces, so maybe my opinion isn't that relevant. (I've also repeated this "rule" elsewhere, a lot of people disagree and just like buttoning over three pieces.

Aren’t you going to boil with that shirt on the dance floor? Maybe try a linen/cotton mix?
Took the dupioni shirt out for a dance event. Happy to report that it performs just about the same as my linen cotton/linen shirts in terms of heat dispelling properties. As a matter of fact I think I boiled more in my voile silk crepe de chine shirt

I took a stab at this question - What to wear to a Black Tie Event. It's extremely hard to answer, but I took it from the perspective of someone who might not already have a black Tux and bowtie. @Andy57 has basically summarised everything in his photos above. That is black tie.
