Fought the crowds today for a Halloween costume and ended up with a made in Italy PRL goat suede button up in like new condition size L. Picks to come

I did the same and was rewarded with a spectacular houndstooth tweed 3/2 sack by Weeds and Tweeds of California woven for Norman Hilton with detachable throat latch during a midday SA run. It's sadly a bit snug and so will have to go. Hit a different SA as well as a GW twice. SA yielded nothing on either trip. On the morning GW run, found a chick's GoreTex rain parka by Columbia that I had passed on a few days earlier because it was a chick jacket but picked it up today owing to recent robust bidding for a Sierra Designs parka with the zipper on the wrong side. Evening GW run started with a minor panic: Teenage costume shoppers had snatched up a Harris Tweed SC I'd had my eye on for awhile--I'd been waiting for it to go to half-price. They ultimately tossed it aside after wearing it all around the store. I'm hoping it will survive the weekend. Whilst I was keeping an eye on them, I found a BB woven in Scotland shetland from more than a few years back that fits and with no flaws. Also an immaculate Pendleton wool shirt that appears never worn and with nary a nibble. Also fits.

All in all, solid singles and perhaps a double or two, which made the effort worthwhile. I would do pics, but no real grails, just an object lesson in the rewards of gritting teeth and diving in at this time of year.

The local Goodwill isn't doing that yet - but Neimans, Saks, and Nordstroms all have outlets in the area and they are notorious for cutting holes in tags, drilling shallow holes in the soles of shoes, writing on the lining of bags and using a sharpie on labels... They don't accept returns, so you can find these defaced items in local consignment and thrift shops.
Amodex is good for removing sharpie stains. Rubbing alcohol also works, but not as well. The silver sharpies can come off with soap and water.

NM, Saks, etc. are much better, I think, at defacing clothing than thrift stores. At least the stuff is still wearable when they do it. Thrift stores all too often are prone to punch holes in leather shoes and put staples smack in the middle of ties.

The law of karma states that if you try to stiff a thrift store for a few bucks by waiting on an item, you're going to, and deserve to, get burned. Unless they're charging a wildly unreasonable amount, anyway.

My rule is that if I leave the store, I do it with the full expectation that I'll never see anything in it again. I often do see things again, but the good stuff can go surprisingly fast. I lost out on two nice overcoats I waffled over once, so now I make sure that I can make peace with myself if I pass on an item before I walk out.

Psychologically speaking, this same theory applies to gambling. If you buy into a casino with €500, you should consider it money spent. In theory, it is as it's in play.

It can definitely be shortened, though I'm honestly unsure of how much. Since it's pretty much the same width/drape all of the way down I'd say it's possible, but I'd check with a (GOOD) tailor first.

To a point. If the jacket in question was something I wanted for myself, of course: You pull the trigger or forever hold your peace. This one was Nino Cerruti, from a Macy-level department store I suspect, and for flipping. My guess is, anything more than $25 will be gravy, and it could take awhile--you never know. It will cost $10-$12 to ship. If I pay full price of $5, the margin is uncomfortably tight, especially if my guess is wrong--there's something inexplicable that says losing $2.50 is no big deal but $5 is a disaster. So I gamble on stuff like this and more often than not, I win. If it disappears when I'm not around, no big deal. Seeing it worn by someone who was three sizes, at least, too big for it and wearing baggy basketball shorts and a t-shirt to boot, that's hard to take. At least as hard was walking away from a navy cashmere blazer at the same store this morning. I would've picked it up to flip (it didn't fit), but it had some smutz on a cuff, which would've meant cleaning it for $8 (really hard to flip anything with flaws, however easily fixed), which would've put the the outlay at $13 for a cashmere blazer that didn't fit with no labels except "Made In USA" and "100 Percent Cashmere" and an ILGWU tag--it really was a very nice jacket, but worthless on the secondary market given the lack of maker label and initial cost. That's the stuff that drives me crazy, but less and less so. Someone, not me, is going to end up with a really nice jacket for the price of a pizza, and I can live with that, so long as it's not going to end up as a post-Halloween vomit-encrusted costume.

I was shocked most about the prices you just mentioned. Yesterday, I paid €9 for one jacket, €16.50 for another and €19 for the last jacket. I forget how good you guys have it.

In response to your situation, I understand. I'm surprised that cashmere anything couldn't reliably go for more, regardless of the fact that the maker is a big unknown. I can get a decent amount out of unknown cashmere just because it's cashmere.

Well, I guess it means I need to buckle down and pick out some dates for my next trip back to the US.

That Attolini is most likely my size, but I don't find myself wearing suits much and even thrifted it's probably more than I want to spend. Amazing find though.

I'm very fortunate. Thrifts here have low prices, so mistakes don't hurt as much.

Anyhow, I really like it even it's a bit too small. I might post the jacket on the trading thread after I stare at it for 2 weeks and take a bunch of pictures of me busting through it.
