You are picking a fight with the wrong group. You have expressed your opinion and should leave it alone now especially in a thrift bragging thread. There are lots of places you can discuss your opinions about whether tassel loafers are classic menswear or not.

As far as your question about whether I am "that cheap" about shining my own shoes, you bet your ass! Why pay someone to do something I can do very easily AND something I can do better than a cheap shoe shine guy.

No one is picking a fight namby pamby. You need to settle down & realize when someone is razing you and has the right to have their own opinion & express it. Grow up & get a better sense of perspective for christs sake. You come across with someone who has the temperament of an 18 year old. The fact that you let someone else opinion about something as trivial as the style of a shoe get under your skin should embarrass you.

In regards to your opinion on the shining: It's a shame to see someone embrace the negative character trait that is cheapness. It's a tacky, narrow minded trait that is penny wise & pound foolish. To consider cost & be thrifty is one thing but cheap people are usually one way streets who are the types of people most would not want to associate with. Life is to short to be cheap.
My guy is a staple in out town. He has been at it for many years and does solid work. Plus keeping my towns small business owners going is what works. Besides, $6 per shine is nothing compared to what the leather spa & other outfits in Manhattan charge. Me tackling the labor right now costs me more money in terms of time. It is something I can pick up come spring/summer, when time permits.

My thoughts. So many of these finds (if true thrift) are something else.

Is this guy serious?

Yes, this guy is (well, somewhat).
You come across as someone with very thin skin.
Lighten up.

Yes, this guy is (well, somewhat).

You're both right.

It's a give-and-take.

If I'm going to be thrifting and hitting estate sales all day on Saturday, I gotta hire someone to mow & edge my lawn (even though I have the equipment and would do a better job - I'd rather pay someone to do it while I'm out trying to find stuff that will more than make up for it).

If I'm sitting on ****** on Sunday night watching TV, I'll bust out the polish and rags and do a couple pairs...unless they're shell, then they go to @capnwes who does a much better job than I ever would and is totally worth the cost (to me).

I'm not talking about paying for a shoe shine. I really don't care about whether he wants to do that.

I'm talking about his post that says this:

"No one is picking a fight namby pamby. You need to settle down & realize when someone is razing you and has the right to have their own opinion & express it. Grow up & get your **** together for christs sake. You come across with someone who has the temperament of an 18 year old. The fact that you let someone else opinion about something as trivial as the style of a shoe get under your skin should embarrass you."

Ugh, you totally would eat popcorn, you sonofabitch.

(Did I start a fight properly?)

On a serious note, how does one clean the shell toed part on a pair of Adidas? I cleaned the bottoms with baking soda/water/vinegar and they look great, but the toes have that weird almost white film that I can't get out.

In addition to the hermes belt and Chanel shoes, here's the rest. Shades are vintage matsuda and Oliver peoples titanium.
