What exactly makes a good tie? I mean, i've bought dozens of nice ones, mostly from brands I know to be excellent, but it seems like I run across so many that would still be decent buys at 1 or 2 dollars. Material feels good, made in italy tags, design isn't too tacky, etc.
What makes good anything? Quality of materials and craftsmanship. Raw materials like silk sourced from Macclfield or England, Cashmere or Wool from Scotland, Grenadine woven in Como etc.. Then that hand crafting by a very skilled professional for the hand folding, internal construction, shaping, the lining, the body, taper, width etc... The ties you see aren't made in Italy, they may say they are, but they are not. They take advantages of loopholes in worldwide textiles regulation laws. Things like where the final piece of work is done is where the tag will say it was made. Thus cheap chinese silk, cheap chinese labor completing 99% of construction, and a small, low overhead workshop located in Italy to apply a keeper or a logo or something. You now have a tie that can legally state it was made in Italy. Charles Trywhitt engages greatly in said practices.

Sneaker-heads: are USA made vtg New Balance a thing? Guessing early 80s?
They are a absolutely a thing, and have niche market. What size are they? I may know a few people that would be interested.

May just be a pair of dirty ol' NBs. Any info?

Shoe bros. Anything special here?

Where are they made? Not a huge Adidas guy myself, but I know they too have their own niche market, especially stuff made in Germany, France, Yugoslavia, etc.

Probably the wrong thread but, definitely unprepared for winter, any suggestion on gloves? I've never had to buy them before

I finally went ahead on last year's black Friday sales and ordered a pair of rabbit fur lined gloves from Dents. Took about a month to get here but totally worth it. Probably cost a little of $100 I think.

Do you guys Instagram? Let's be friends?

i keep coming back to you guys, even with questions outside of thrifting, and i hope that's ok (i trust your judgement)

i have a budget of ~$300-400 for a nice, versatile and warm coat. OTHER than a peacoat, what styles and, more specifically, brands can i look to?

the Sterlingwear and Schott peacoats were just way too boxy and i think i am sick of that aesthetic anyway.

my office isn't super dressy so really, even a parka could probably work.

thanks!

Vietnam. Seem like a cool older pair than most I have seen.
