Can anyone educate me on the actual benefits of and storm welt?

Specifically, I have the reverse chamois wingtip boots on commando coming in from Brick+Mortar that feature a regular welt instead of a storm welt. I bought these to wear in all types of weather, but truly don't see myself putting them through anything more than a puddle or two on rainy days.

Any real drawbacks? Help is appreciated!

Much appreciate Unc - If anyone, I thought that you would appreciate a classic pair of Alden Americana.


You are too kind! As a young guy, not many people agree with my stylistic choice to sport these. I had my doubts personally, but I quickly grew to love them. Unfortunately...like you, I may have to part with these. While the entire loafer feels great on the foot, the heel cup is a bit wide for my low volume foot and it causes slipping that is intolerable after a few hours. I think the Aberdeen last just isn't for me.

I think it's probably mostly for looks although the storm welt is supposed to block out more water from seeping inside the shoe/boot.
