I'm on the fence. I have looked at this model before, and I really really like it too. Really splitting hairs. And then to make it worse, I just saw the Leffot Naval boot in #8. I think the real solution is just get another job or two haha.

And as far a lasts go, I don't have any experience with any of the Alden lasts yet. The 1-511 last (dalton boot) from AE fits me perfectly in a 12D. So i'm assuming I would be 11.5D on barrie and 12D on grant, based on what i've read. But again, don't know the real differences of them well enough. Ordering from Canada only makes the problem worse haha

I really like the TSM makeup. I have both #8 and black shell. The Leffot Naval boot is amazing, too. You really can't go wrong with a #8 shell boot. Just finding the one you want in stock is the issue.

Your sizing estimate sounds about right. Although, seems as though I am the only person that is the same size in the 1-511 and the Barrie.

Yes... finding pairs in stocks seems to be a big challenge, the more I look around. Well i'll see how things go, and maybe i'll have to get myself a pair of boots for my birthday. Where I live, you can wear boots many month of the year, so it's justified.

Thanks for the comments on sizing too. It can be tough to find last comparisons, especially between brands.

I have worn shell in the rain for eons .. This is why I pay the extra upcharge for Shell. Simply dry them out completely .. Wipe, brush .. And done. I think because shell is so expensive .. People are naturally hesitant .. But honestly .. This leather is and was used for this exact purpose.

The Alden Defender works great
I'm glad to hear this, I actually just got some this week and tried it on a pair of my shells. I'm just wearing them for the first time now after treating.

Does the defender add to or detract from the shine of the shell at all?

Another member just posted a link to the J Crew site. They have it.

Howdy all, it has been a while since I have had time to catch up and post.

I got these off the Bay a few weeks ago, they are my first non-shell Aldens. I think that they look pretty good. I have heard that the Cape Cod collections can not be re-soled by Alden. Is that the case? I believe that they are made in Maine as opposed to the Massachusetts factory. Anyways, enjoy and have a good weekend all!

Thanks,
Mike
