Help!

Was carrying leftovers from a family dinner and looked down to my horror that oil from vindaloo had spilled over my cigar shell beales...no idea what to do but not anxious to pour all kinds of stuff on shell cordovan. There are definitely some dark marks from the oil, advice is needed!

I think you're correct and it's a good point, but I also think that the sleekness of the last and the flat welt are much more noticeable than the eyelets underneath pants. Thus the BB PTBs are still dressier than the 990s, imo.

Vindaloo tears me up every time!!

Don't have any experience with oils, but after spilling a drop of spaghetti sauce on my ravello LWBs, a good brushing after a wiping with slightly damp wash cloth seemed to do the trick. Good luck...

The 990 has a storm welt with contrast stitching. Contrast stitching - alone - makes the 990 more casual. This isn't a slam against the 990 - the 990 is great and a true classic - but a storm welt plus contrast stitching versus no storm welt and no contrast stitching makes this one easy, at least for me, as to which one is more casual and which one is more dressy. I have owned both models.

+1, the BB is dressier, no question. get it while you can -- it's increasingly difficult to pick up the BB PTBs...they are my favorite Aldens, and I am up to 16 pairs now.

Fellow Alden aficionado's,

I am on the prowl for a pair of the boots like the ones shown below (I believe this exact pair is actually owned by a forum member).

Black Cordovan
Plain Toe
Natural Edge Trim
(Commando Sole preferably)

If anyone know's where I can find a make up like this, please let me know.

Thanks,
Brandon

I wear an 8D in the AE 5-last and have an opportunity to get an Alden on the modified last for a good price. Are these sizes comparable?

AoC has a makeup sort of like that on the TruBalance last, but black edge trim--the one you posted is the Pitt boot, and I believe Alden is no longer doing black shell with a natural edge trim, so you might be out of luck on the primary market.

Tom - please start ordering your plaza and leydon shoes in E widths - I promise you they will all sell out. I wanted to buy the anniversary chukka but I need an e width in that last

+100!

I've had to pass up so many awesome make-ups in the past do to width restrictions. He should order a few E widths as a test :nodding:...
