Alden still uses metal shanks, right? Curious if that will set off the metal detector at airport security (I have TSA-pre and don't want to have to remove my shoes).
Yes, it will definitely set off the metal detector. Metal detectors are designed to detect steel shanks. That's their job.

Saz, those work horses are looking great as well!!!

It's weird, but the 6 eyelet chukka always seemed a bit off balance to me. Even my Plaza last NST pair. As much as I like them, I don't find myself reaching for them too often.

TC, yeah, I now have two pairs of 6-Eyelet Chukkas from Alden. Definitely an interesting twist on the Chukka. I think it looks good from certain angles, but odd from others!

I have to wonder if brass nails in the heels are enough to set off a metal detector on their own. Seems like some makers don't use steel shanks but still do use nails in the heel.

Not in my experience. I can get thru US metal detectors with AE shoes (wood shanks). Not with Alden.

As a pre-check and Clear user, who used to fly at least once a month for work, but sometimes as frequently as three trips a month, I would only wear Alden slip ons to travel. I would always wear English shoes with a wood or fiberglas shank if I was wearing a suit or go totally casual if my meeting were the next day. Alden boots are not uncommon in my luggage, even if it's a short trip.

Reminds me of the time I wore a pair of Alden boots to a concert venue. The security guy gave me a serious double take when I informed him that I was setting off his wand due to the shank in my boot. Apparently that word carries different connotations for most people.
