Quick Indy sizing advice, please. I wear 11.5D in Barrie and that’s a bit...relaxed...shall we say. 11.5D in the Indy is MASSIVE wrt volume, but the length is good. I keep hearing that I should go down a half size, but wouldn’t going down to a C width in 11.5 be better?

I have the same problem with the Tru last but going down half a size is a little too snug at the toes. Have you at least tried on the half size lower? The problem with C width is finding one available and returnable.

That was my sense, as well, with the Barrie and Trubalance which I take in half a size down. With my 403 Indys, any smaller would put my foot ahead of the flex point. I kept my Indys because the more I wear them the better that high volume fit seemed to feel. It's not unlike my barrie-lasted boots, which I wore with thin dress-type Darn Tough socks. They somehow seemed to snug up as they formed to my feet over time. I also didn't want to pay full price for a C width Indys, and have hardly ever seen them show up second-hand. So now I wear slightly thicker socks with the Indy boots and they feel great. Plus, I recall that model being designed with thicker socks in mind anyway.

I'm similar (11.5d barrie, although I go E width if I intend to only wear with thicker winter socks).

I tried indy on w/ 11E and 11.5C, C width would have been best (had I bought them), as 11 was a touch too tight up at the toes YMMV

CXL indy will stretch like crazy though, so a little discomfort in the beginning might transition into a great wearing pair.

separately, shameless plug for some 11.5 pairs I have for sale :)

+1 on going down in width for trubalance. For a C width, the 403 and 405 Indy's are both listed as being available in C width as stock models in the Alden catalog (8-13 in 403 and 7-13 in 405). Any retailer should be able to get the factory to ship them out right away and should be willing to accept a return on a stock size.

But a half size shorter won’t stretch in length, right? Any stretching in a tight toe box will just result in the boot developing a bulbous toe, correct?

I have a tendency to prefer snug shoes when I’m trying them on, but that just results in tight shoes after a day’s wear and bumps showing where my toes are pushing out over time. That’s why I’m so leery of buying anything smaller than my true size.

For example, my beeswax desert boots are too small and you can definitely make out where my pinky toes push out and my big toes push up. I’d hate an expensive pair of Indy’s to develop the same telltales.

You can stretch width, but you can't stretch length.

Anyone have experience with the with the 379X ("Military") last? Any comments about how similar or different it is to the Modified last?

Don't do business with Pelle Line in NJ.
They are totally liars. They took my money for preorder for tanker boots 4 month ago, stating that tanker will be delivered in March. So far I receive nothing. I asked them to refund, they refused. They don't have any policy of no refund. Some people say, deposit is not refundable. But, please note, they stated that the order is placed long time ago with Alden. I didn't ask them to order special size. Basically, they just seduce you to put a deposit and keep your money for free. During that time, they keeping saying that the order will arrive soon.
So I called my credit card company Chase to dispute. Today I received a mail from Chase showing me the proof from Pelle Line. They forged the receipt and delivery proof. In fact, they don't even have the boots yet. Fortunately, I have the email from Pelle Line that can prove they are lying.
Can you imagine this happened when you place an deposit? Be careful ,guys! Ask for receipt of any charge and stay away from Pelle Line. BTW, any layer in our forum who can tell us how to protect us in this situation?

Wow. This is one reason why I personally refuse to preorder anything.
