I didn't know whether to add this to the "Anyone for a Scotch" thread or start a new one. But has anyone else tried The Macallan Fine Oak series?

I recently went to visit my sister and her fiance and brought a bottle of the Fine Oak 15yr as a gift. I had done a bit of research on the series and tasting reviews had put the 15 above the 21 and slightly below the 17/18 (which is harder to find). After pouring a few drams with my future brother-in-law, let me just say that I love the 15. It is incredibly smooth and all around delicious and I definitely prefer it to the 12yr Sherry.

I will most likely pick up a bottle of the 15 for myself and a 17 when I get the chance/funds.

Anyone else try the fine oak?

Part of my Xmas present this year was a bottle of the 25. It made for several very nice evenings.

I'v had a younger fine oak, i belive it was the 10 or 12. I really enjoy McCallan but once you have had the 25 (or if your lucky the 30) its hard to go back.

All time favorits are still the Talisker, Laphrog, Lagavlan, and Caol Ila. (sp)
they taste like a warm campfire on the beach.

I still can't drink scotch, as a 32 year old man. I love wine, bourbon, sipping tequila, etc etc. but scotch just tastes like a moss-covered log buried under a coffin to me.

when does this taste get acquired? past age 40?

Someone tell Huntsman not to read this; he might get upset and I believe he is (well-)armed.

That moss flavor is from smoked peat. Scotch such as Laphroaig feature this distinct flavor, which is often love or hate. There are plenty of more approachable varieties - read the other scotch thread.
