Sorry to say - REK is a master lyricist but pretty crappy performer.

Like me some old school Cory Morrow, Robison, Boland, and Creager

Besides Explosions in the Sky, in the way of post rock I believe This Will Destroy You is also from San Marcos, Tx.

Pantera was from Dallas if you like that style of metal (later albums not my thing)

The Sword are currently based out of Austin, Tx (badass band)

At the Drive In came out of El Paso, Tx.

Janis Joplin was born in Corpus Christi (i think so..yes?)

Selena and that whole style of Tejano music popped outta here.

How can no one have mentioned the little old band from Texas:

ZZtop live.

I've known Billy and Dusty for over 20 years ( never met Frank ).

I don't think Stevie Ray Vaughn has been mentioned yet either.

I saw him many times at Rockefellers club on Washington.

One of my Rice U. buddies actually managed the 13th Floor Elevators back in the 1960s. It was a different world then and even though they are a legendary band they never had huge commercial success.

ZZ top: too obvious.

SRV though I think was mentioned in earlier posts, or rather in earlier posted vids.

It's not so much that REK is a crappy performer, but rather that every one else in the audience insists on singing along with him. That part tends to grate on me: after all the ticket reads Robert Earl Keen, not Robert Earl Keen and 20,000 drunk rednecks all singing along.

I've only seen one concert live, but he was pretty bad. SF - Dressed in faded all-black t-shirt, pleated olive pants, and black rockport grandpa shoes.

I'm not sure he muttered a consonant the entire concert. There's drawling, and then there's just not giving a damn.
