Taupe suit?

I am thinking about getting a solid taupe wool suit. Are they considered causal, versatile, OK for work? What's the low down? I already have a tan cotton canali, so I want a year round suit that isn't the exact same color. Olive seems too casual, but maybe...

Now, there is a solid chance that this is just irrational prejudice, so take it with a grain of salt.

I despise that color in wool. If you want that color (and let's call it "cream" or "fawn"), please, get it in linen or silk. Those are elegant classics. In wool, it just looks borrowed from the (queen-sized) ladies department.

Don't know your size but I saw a nice taupe Belvest at virtualclotheshorse.com for $699.

Medium taupe is the closer of the ones shown. Something like this:

I am not married to the idea, so what about olive?

I don't care much for this color. Check out the lightweight "Oatmeal" colored fresco offered by Smith (I think)

Linen or cotton, not wool.

I've seen a few taupe suits in wool that looked nice on the wearer; however, I prefer cotton or linen, too.

Is this close to what is referred to as British Khaki ? I have this in both Linen and wool and I just can't get into wearing linen often. I like the drape of wool much better, but I think mine are lighter.

I think that few people look good in this color. In other words, it sucks the living color out of your skin leaving you looking like a corpse without makeup, IMHO.

Well, do you have a navy pinstripe? I know you said solid, but it is hard to beat one for year round wear and looking good.

Yes I do have a navy pinstrip, plus two other striped suits (a brown and also a very dark charcoal). I could maybe go for a light grey with chalk strip, but I thought that I already have enough of those. I am actually quite glad that I asked about the taupe though, as I might have made the mistake of buying one and then really regretting it. Maybe just a little darker solid tan? As I mentioned, I already have a light tan cotton suit for summer. I also have some unique suits with windowpanes, etc. so I am looking for more of a staple suit that will get a lot of wear by rounding out the rotation. Thx again.
