Hi Gents,

I'd like to use the forum's wisdom and see if you guys, and gals, could point me to some resources on the types of jobs in financial services and finance. I know, financial services is a big wide world and I'm looking for positions that will cater to my strengths (quant analysis not being one of them) and finding research about the types of positions available has been surprisingly difficult.

I'm looking for any resources or advice on the types of jobs available in wealth managment, financial services, and private banking.

If it helps here is a little background-

My strengths and experience are in sales, marketing, and contrarian thinking. I run (and helped get off the ground) an athlete sponsorship program for a non-profit that creates social and economic opportunities around the Olympic Games in Vancouver. I've written everything from the business plan, to liasing with web developers, to selling the program to businesses.

I currently have no professional financial designations or licenses (such as a Series 7). However, I have read and studied everything from Ben Graham to Jeffrey Siegel. I am interested in a position in New York City in 2010 (when my current position will come to close) so I'm starting research and job hunt now.

Thanks for your time and any helps would be greatly appreciated.

A

Sounds like you want to get into the roles of a financial advisor or private banker. It's all relationship management.

Or you want to find out more about other financial jobs such as investment banking, sales & trading, asset management, private equities, etc?

I think my strengths would be better suited to financial advisement and on the finance side, sales. My strengths are not in building derivatives.

I'm just having a surprisingly tough time finding resources that explain the types of jobs available in financial services in general so I can start focusing on something and gaining any needed professional designations.

I'm just trying to do research on what I should be looking, and asking for, it's proved more difficult than I thought.

In addition to Whoopee's advise, try lurk at Wall Street Oasis.com, Banker's Ball, analyst forum, etc.

There are different kinds of financial advisers; you have a financial advisers that sell products to retail (i.e., poor) clients, investment bankers that advise corporations in financing ad M&A activities, private bankers that sell products and services to private clients (rich and mega super rich).

Sorry for the off topic, but does anyone know any forums where the UK / British bankers hang out?

Not looking for a job, but just an insight into their minds (evil villain laugh)
