I was reading Brown bespoke website and i was quite surprised to read that Mr Brown was promoting the idea of a single breasted suit with peak lapel with quite some warmth (in a very British understated way)...

His argument was to combine the sharpness of the DB with the more versatile SB..

What are your views on the subject?

Single button is classic. I think it'd look good.

IMO single breasted/single button in either peak or notch lapel is the best. I have this model from Hermes (Belvest) in a different fabric:

For business I prefer notched lapel.

I do have a dark blue suit, 2 buttons peak lapels I wear when I go clubing. It looks good.

What other lapel are you going to get? lol. I like the peak/single breasted as well. As long as its in proportion. Especially with a peak lapel vest...it's been in style for a long time.

Or how about Baron's entry in the KW gray contest...

For some reason I detest peak lapels. Slimmer, notched lapels are the only thing that appeals to me. Equally, I can't stand three-button suits unless the top button is roll-over style. My favourite remains a one button notch lapel suit

I'm not a fan of most SB jackets I see with peak lapels. But, there are exceptions and those are usually when done in heavier fabrics like a flannel. I recall an Oxxford navy blazer in a 2 button SB with peak lapels that looked very handsome. The lighter fabrics look too formal to me. I do, however like them with DB jackets and tuxedos. But all of this is just personal preference.

I don't care how many buttons, or whether it's single- or double-breasted: I hate straight-angle peak lapels without any belly. Up until recently, all my single-breasted jackets were peak lapel. I think they look fine, fashionable or not.

^^^ Those are exactly the kind of peak lapels I can't stand. They look like they're going to cut into something.

+1. It looks like the coat is sucking in the belly of the lapels and holding its breath.
