I agree about mid/high shoes in general, but there are some styles that look better in their natural, low state. Like the above.

(worst/most ungodly shoe to make into a mid/high version? Espadrilles? Monk straps?)

This is really a heavy duty sweater. While I did give serious pause, last Monday I received a Fioroni rib knit zip through that is truly outstanding. It is sans hood, but for some reason the wide drawstrings likewise rendered in cashmere leaves me cold. Hood I could take or leave. Still this thing is a monster and a stupid good price for a full fat Cucinelli.

Since the Gucci brand was never Great (examples of great are Cristóbal Balenciaga, Charles James and Yves Saint Laurent), but became "fashionable" for certain Classic looks after WW2. The recent totally bizarre reinvention of the brand means than the real Classic loafers are just that. However, this example is not one of those. I feel it is rather mediocre.

I would not overthink it -- pick something from Crockett & Jones and you will be fine.
