Thanks for the links, guys, but I was also wondering about your definition along with your expert opinions/experiences with this leather as well!

Well, they don't have the glossy stuff to cover all of the imperfections like some makers use.

Any color differential between the shoes is because of my poor picture taking abilities and the flash hitting them differently.

Very nice Matt. That is a great color for cordovan, and not one that is seen often.

Ugolini's last shape is also very attractive - is this his default chisel last, or did you have to guide him towards such a shape?

I think default is a little shorter of a toe. At least my trial shoes originally had a shorter toe, but he liked the way the shape of the shoes I was wearing (Gomez) looked with the kind of pants I wear, so he decided to extend and narrow the toe a touch.

This is not really a subject amenable to debate. The definition of shell cordovan is perfectly clear and not controversial. It is a subcutaneous material from the rump of a horse. Anything that is not that is not shell cordovan. It is different from calf, and some people like it and some don't. I'm on a bit of a shell kick recently after avoiding it for a long time. It doesn't wrinkle like calf, but it does ripple.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at with your question, I have to say.

Those are not your shoes.

Someone else ordered them and put them in your closet.

Where did I ask for this forum to debate anything? I wanted opinions, and if your personality's filter turns that into "debate", then I can't help that.

Once again, thank you to the forum members who gave me links, but my POINT is to get the forum's personal experiences with shell cordovan: is different in characteristic from, say, calf leather?
