Once again, thank you to the forum members who gave me links, but my POINT is to get the forum's personal experiences with shell cordovan: is different in characteristic from, say, calf leather?

Lot of love here for shell cord. I am in the minority in that I don't quite see what the hubbub is about. Shell cord for foul-weather boots is amazing, but I have never appreciated the leather for dress shoes (I particulary don't like the "waves" that develop on the leather after frequent wear).

I know this thread is a venue for showing everyone your new purchases, but shell cordovan was brought up and I wanted to "strike while the iron was hot" by asking about it.

You asked for definitions. When they were offered, you asked for our personal definitions. As if such a thing could have a personal definition. Anyway, sorry I tried to answer your obscure and poorly worded question posed in an inappropriate venue.

If you guys could help me out identifying these shoes, that would be great! I picked them up for $20 from a local boot repair shop. They were right at the back, in the bottom of the pile. So much dust on them I couldn't even tell what colour they were. They fit my feet perfectly though, so I got them. Brand is Church's. Did a bit of research, and the only shoe I could find was this:

Very similar. Looks like the only difference is the lace-holes (pair I got has 2). Rubber soles on mine, but I think mine have been resoled at some point. Add in the fact that those shoes are around $600, and I think I may have just got an incredible deal! However, mine are falling apart inside, insides are tearing away. the suede upper is in excellent condition however, which is great. If someone could find details on this exact model, I'd appreciate it. Looks like it is the 73 last, but that's all I have to go on other than some random numbers on the inside of the shoe.

They're nice shoes. Church's is a reputable brand (even moreso not of late, and your shoes are probably a good several years old). You seem like a young guy who's friends would wear Clarks desert treks, boots, khans, etc. Your shoes look better.

You misunderstood the question. All he wanted was opinions ("cordovan sucks because of the creasing") not personal definitions. Personal experience with the leather seems like what he was after.
