I've moved away from straight lacing. I just find it less comfortable than the boring old zig-zag style.

zig zag is fine if there is space between the quarters. I even lace some of my oxfords ziggy because there is enough space. But when they touch like that, just doesn't look right, to me at least.

I got these Grenson Masterpieces from E-bay (listing here):

Ridiculously cheap, also considering I put in a very low bid about 8 hours before it ended, not thinking I would win anyway. They are brand new, in box.

Third pic compared to C&J Finsbury 341 last.

Thanks!

I always thought buying a black oxford was extremely boring as I use them a couple of times each year at most, and that is why I haven't got a pair until now. And those were cheaper (half price) than my first goodyear welted shoes (a pair of black, corrected grain, oxfords from Alfred Sargent

Thanks,

I have UK8E in nearly all my shoes, the Grenson is marked US9D which translates to UK8E if I'm correct. And luckily they fit my feet just as well as the C&J. I can't really feel any difference between them in fit, but I have only tried them on for a couple of minutes.

ok i understand. i thought the c&j was a little shorter but maybe it is due to the grenson being lasted on a shoe tree whilst the c&j is not .

thanks for answering, enjoy them!

The difference in length is about 2 mm, so the C&J is shorter. But I doubt it would affect the fit.

Thanks, I will!

Pics of my J.M. Westons which, ironically, I picked up at Saks while walking up to this year's Collection of Sartorial Excellence, where I proceeded to give Ron Rider the rest of my money for Martegani Black Labels and his own creations (Rider Boot)!

These J.M. Westons are burgundy calf double wingtips. I'm a fan of the wholecut style, and while this is not a wholecut, it does have minimalist lines. Love it!

Those are beautiful and reminiscent of the EG Beaulieu. I see surprisingly few JM Westons in these parts, most people seem to favour their English counterparts. How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

"1st Gen" G&G Windsors in Vintage Chestnut. I waited five months for them, then they sat on the shelf in shoe bags for two months until I man'd up enough to put them on and wear them out. After that, I realized how ridiculous it was to buy shoes and not wear them, so my new acquisitions go about as long as it takes me to give it a thorough clean and polish before hitting the street. Live & learn I guess...
