What is most satisfying about these, my first experince with bespoke, is how well they fit right out of the box. I don't think I've ever had any shoe fit this well; and that, in fact, is the point. And its true.

I've already commissioned my next pair, a pair of monks.

They're both bespoke, not MTM.

Those look great Ron. The Hayes is my favorite.

Looks like G&G are doing the slightly tapered "Cuban" heel that Jason does.

Thanks LSeca.

Ironically, I was inspired to get them after seeing both in last year's "best looking shoe in the world" thread (I'd also seen the V-front derby in Gaziano's portfolio when I first joined SF).

Its an incredible feeling to actually have them in my line up.

I'm a bit disappointed that the quarters of the derbies aren't made from a single piece of leather and so giving a seamless heel (see Manton's bespoke G&Gs here).

Minor detail perhaps, but if Jobb Lobb can do it on their Prestige Line shoes, I would've expected no less from bespoke.

Having said that, the shoes are lovely. Enjoy wearing them.

It's a feature (the seemless heal) that Tony will gladly do if asked. Indeed, he says it's a very popular feature in Japan. But if not asked, it is not his standard design.

Not what he told me, but who knows. The fact is he can and does do it when asked. I'd be more curious about the wonky seam that's there.

Not as wonky, as on the Hayes.

I think the shoes are nice overall, and the wonky seam doesn't really bother me. I do prefer a seamless back, but it s not a deal killer for me. My main complaint would be that the toe cap looks kind of out of proportion to my eyes. The shoes are really long and I would like to see a straighter cap to balance them out. Perhaps it would cut down on the appearance of length. On the other hand the shape of the cap matches the v front. Overall they are very nice though.

Yeah, that much wonk would start to bother me.

The beauty of going bespoke is that you can set whatever specifications you like. For example, had I wanted them without seams, i.e., as wholecuts, I could have asked for that. But, I didn't. My preference was to have the front of the derby be made from a single piece of calfskin, rather than two pieces stitched together; and that's what I got.
