Saphir Products Questions

Hi

After years of using nothing more than Kiwi wax to care for my black dress shoes, I am about to order a few products from Saphir. Here's what I'm planning on ordering:

1) Either Renovateur or Creme Nubiana (not sure which one yet);
2) Pate de Luxe Medaille d'Or in black; and
3) Cream Pommadier Medaille d'Or in black.

My basic routine will be to (i) apply some Renovateur or Creme Nubiana, (ii) then apply some of the Pommadier, and (iii) finally apply some Pate de Luxe to give some shine.

I have read a lot of the posts on the forum regarding Saphir products and wondered if any of you could help clarify the following for me:

1) Do Renovateur and Nubiana essentially do the same thing (i.e. clean and condition the leather)? Is it necessary to have both
products or would one of them be sufficient (and if one would be sufficient, which one would be better to go for)?

2) For black shoes, is it necessary to use both the Pommadier and Pate de Luxe or would using just one of these be sufficient?

3) I was planning on buying some Renomat to clean the layers of gunk and polish that can accumulate over time. Is it necessary to use this or will Renovateur or Nubiana already do this?

Many thanks in advance for any feedback any of you can give on the above.

The Cream Pommadier Medaille d'Or in black does wonders for my hair. People tell me I look ten years younger!

This was a remarkably detailed question that got remarkably little attention!

Regarding your question #2, I alternate between the two - I don't use both at any one time. I get what I feel is a very nice shine from either one.

I base this on the recommendation from french retailer Valmor

"Use [Shoe Polish Pate De Luxe] in alternation with the Pommadier Saphir MÃ

daille d'Or below, which contains more liquid waxes permitting in-depth penetration of the leather for better cleaning."

Now, I am no expert on this subject, but I have been using Saphir products for about 6 months (switched from standard Kiwi polish) and I am very impressed by the shine. They leave a nicer smell - more organic - around the house as well. I use a horsehair brush and then a spit shine with a chamois cloth. Not sure you need all that equipment though!

Renomat is different. Nubiana cleans but not strips the wax.
Buy both.

This is good advise - and the same treatment here. The cream MDO has more pigment and does a good job of filling scuffs, etc...the wax gives a brilliant shine when worked correctly. Might sound self-serving, but both in conjunction will do the best job.

Renovateur is the rountine cleaner/conditioner and the product I use more than anything else. Good treatment for leather soles also. No scientific proof...don't jump on me if you don't agree....but I do this regularly. Seems to me the mink oil is a good thing - even if it's just in my head.
