Despite the allure of the story, the demand has never been terribly high. Most of New & Lingwood's bespoke customers (when N&L had rights to the hides) and subsequently Cleverley's customers were rather conservative in approach. Most of the shoes that George & John made at both firms were very classic...with black calf being the predominant color. The texture and color (and faint aroma) of the Russian calf made it best suited for a country shoe...for which there was less demad, particularly at a higher price.

Perhaps they might make a very nice gift for someone else??? I would imagine you might even find some deserving souls/soles on this Forum.

No, they're really stiff and rough and dry out easily.

I tried -- I am waiting for a pair of dark burgundy punch cap oxfords ("ladies" punching, meaning small, and swan neck stitching at the throat; you are the inspiration for their restraint). It has worked so far, but the voices in my head never remain quiet for long and their siren song will no doubt reach a crescendo soon after this pair is delivered.

How about a pair of Jaguar suede ankle boots with double buckle straps and bevelled sole from Anthony Delos? For instance...

I think that if I could kill the jaguar myself, the voices would stop for a while. Killing always make them sleep.

Own a pair of JL Barenia motorcycle boots and am quite happy with them. This to the extend that not actually owning a motorcycle does not seem to bother me...

I just commissioned a pair when Cleverley passed through town last week.

According to Dominic, Prince Charles owns the right to salvage and has said that when the 'approved' diver retired, he was not going to permit any more salvage of that ship. He also mentioned that Cleverley had about a two year supply remaining.

These are the kinds of posts I really hate. It makes the damned voices start up again.

I don't like it either, but I am not sure if this opinion moves you towards or away from ordering a pair.
