i'm calling BS on this one. As someone who has ridden the Blue Line for the last 15 years. Perhaps light rail does not yet go where you hipsters go. but that doesn't mean nobody rides it. you try going to seventh and metro at 5:30 and then tell me about it.
but yeah, you're right about the traffic (hence the blue line)

I knew you'd take issue with that. I've taken the trains a million times. As I've mentioned before, the rails are good if you are going from one part of one line to another part of that same line. btw, do you switch to the redline for the last bit?

yup. blue line picks me up 1/2 mile from my house, switch to red line and it lets me off 1 1/2 blocks from my office. takes an hour, but it's pure heaven reading rather than fighting traffic.

and i've also come to appreciate strip mall architecture, too (well, not the architecture, but the cheap construction that allows low rents that allows mom-and-pop restaurants).

Appreciate the intent and effort of the thread but it's bound to die quickly since no one really cares about LA. People care about NYC, SF, maybe Chicago... Who wants to talk (or argue) about LA?

Maybe true for the financial industry (but who wants to talk about that?). Not true for anything involving art, film, music, architecture, literature, fashion, sushi, mexican food, or any other reason for living.

i'm not so sure. i remember in the '80s and '90s there was an almost never-ending discussion about the sorry state of LA ... and that was here (Mike Davis style). i haven't been to one of those parties in a long long time. either all those people moved back to new york, or they've been successfully co-opted by teh perfect weather, fabulous scenery and amazing cultural diversity that we have here
