The Darlton is my most often worn of my "expensive" shoes. I wear them at least once a week. T shirt, jeans, whatever.

The Darlton wingtip is one of the most visible items on the RL website. About half of the jeans & chinos models are wearing them. That might give a better idea of how they look.

When you guys say Mansion, do you mean only the flagship NY store?

because my local Lil' Mansion had them in stock 2 nights ago.

We mean 867 Madison Avenue.

If your local store has the wingtips in a 12, I'm a buyer.

I was disappointed by the disappearance of the Eden too. But I suspect it would be a poor fit for my low instep, anyway, so I'm only so bummed.

Passed up a pair of the shell Darlton wingtips. It's a nice looking shoe, but still, $400. I passed them up at substantially less than that previously, and decided I'd be pulling the trigger now only because of the frenzy about shell prices going up. May come to regret it.

I know, I know. But I'm coming around to the view that it's a shoe I simply must have. I'd get the approximate equivalent from Alden or AE, but that brown cordovan is just so pretty. I grabbed the plain-toe model last week, and I so like it.

I think you meant Pembroke, though I'd compare them to the Cardiff because of the double leather sole. Same last either way.

Spend a little more money and get the AE/Alden. The Darlton is pretty much a Budapester, and with the double sole it's pretty strictly a casual shoe. The color is great, though.

No purchases for me this time around.

I thought long and hard about the Grants, but I decided that there are simply other shoes I would rather have at $500-ish than a pair of black monks, even though the quality on the grants is tops. Some CJ handgrades of some sort. As ridiculous as it sounds, the Grants look like my BB wholecuts when on the foot with slacks.

Even more ridiculous, I thought about getting a "spare" pair of Darlton wings. I was thinking CJ factory resoling would cost $200-plus, what's another $180 for the rest of the shoe thrown in as well? But I restrained myself.

There might be a consulting career waiting for you as "explainer of shoe logic to the wives of sf members".
