You're right; I don't know what I was thinking. The source of my information that the Polo Darlton wingtip is the Pembroke in shell cordovan comes from a C&J response to my email asking which last was used. My original post has been edited. Doc, you'd really enjoy the Darlton wingtips. I think you'll regret not buying them. They're unique in my shoe wardrobe of >30 pairs. The brown shell cordovan has such character...

^^+1 Bought the Darlton wingtips during the discount frenzy last year, they are great shoes. I liked them so much I tracked down a pair of McCallums and bought a pair of the Bluchers at this sale.

Thanks. Several of them look nice, but in a basic way, not that special. Maybe I'll pass I guess.

I fear you're right, Thinman. But lately I've been favoring boots heavily, and I'm uncertain whether such substantial shoes would work their way into the rotation. I've already got a couple of gunboats that don't get much use.

Of course, once they're gone, I'm sure I'll realize the error of my thinking.

I'm in Cali. I asked an SA in Boston to look find me some Grants in 11. He was pretty helpful, took all my info, including credit card and said he will track them down and give me a call to give me the final total. I know they are hard to come by now, but he hasn't called back (after I tried calling him this afternoon). I believe his store is closing soon EST. Should I just call the Beverly Hills Polo and get someone there to track something down? I'm afraid this guy is probably busy helping his in-store customers and probably hasn't had much luck so just said f it. If anything, maybe I can purchase today just to get the extra discount, then "exchange" them if and when they track down the right size.

In situations like this, I use the "Buy 2 and Return 1" philosphy. If you really want these shoes you don't want to miss out. Sounds like the lowest price for the forseable future.

I browsed around the Americana Manhasset RL store for a while today. Unfortunately, they carry almost all Italian RL shoes and I was disappointed that solid Black Label suits are not on sale. Brooks Brothers has some nice GF by Greenfield suits on sale for $500-$1000. The salesman offered to take another 25% off through the F&F discount. Most of the suits had double pleats and a center vent but I was amazed at how well they are made. I don't think I've ever seen hand stitched buttonholes on a suit with a $1600 MSRP before.

yeah, the brown shell that polo/C&J is using is rather unique - i've got the oxnard buckle boot in brown shell, and it is always a good choice, and I have nothing else in the shade.

had the darlton wingtip as well, but didn't like the way the last felt on my foot, so I sold them. Now, I'm wondering if I could have broken them in anyway.....

Anyone have an opinion on the Rivington? To me, nice-looking monk straps. Thinking of buying at <$300 including tax and shipping.

I went to the mansion today. Annoying little crowd. Barely any black label items on sale to begin with and they wouldn't honor the web sale price for certain items (let me know if any of your sales guys were willing to do that). The Darlton wingtip is not my style at all. It looks like something my mother would have forced me to wear in grammar school - rather unshapely.

On two different occasions I've bought RL ties but ended up returning them. There are several brands that are far better, IMO.

I like the PL ties, but it is a certain aesthetic. I've never liked the regular line ties.

I picked up one of the cashmere sweaters for 160 online, didn't have time to make it up to Madison.

The Darlton shell is the same as the Alden cigar, unless I'm mistaken.
