Looking at some oxfords in Polo suede color and like the look, but thinking they may not be as easy to match with pants as say a darker color brown suede. Anyone own the Polo suede coland care to chime in, or perhaps anyone else open to giving me much needed color matching advice. Thanks for any help!

So I picked up a strange pair this week. Theres a bit of a story attached to this so will do that prior to the reveal.

A friend of mine, realised he'd really been wearing the wrong size shoes for some time and as such moved on a lot of his earlier shoewear purchases, and among them, lots of random stuff from Crockett, AS, Crombie... and a pair of Richard James shoes which I found quite striking.

An oxford Toe cap, in three tone brown, with closed channel soles, but on what was clearly a Crockett 348 last. So it seems crockett were making these, but to a standard somewhere between Benchgrade and Handgrade.

The other day a pair came up on ebay, in my size, brand new and unworn! Seemed rude not to... so now I present to you, My Richard James Hallams!

It’s the same for New&Lingwood, even benchgrade models have closed channel soles.

I just loved that they stood out as being something a little unique. I remember being quite taken with the pair my friend had and since you can't buy them any more (they must be at least 8-10 years old at this point), I just wrote off ever finding a pair. Well.... never count your chickens huh!

I’ve always felt that C&J occupies kind of a unique place in the pantheon of English shoes.

They have a wonderful RTW range with tons of options. Their boots are second to none and give EG boots a run for the money. Given the cost differential, a better value.

Their styling is classic but not stodgy. They offer a great made to order program and their hand grade line is right up their with EG, JL and G&G.

They really don’t have a peer either in the same price range or in terms of what they offer.

Very well said, and that is why I have bought around 20 pairs of boots/shoes by C&J, more than any other single brand for sure. For the reasons mentioned above, 9 times out of 10 I end up with C&J.

I believe they are on the 240 last rather than 325 as C&J uses. 240 is Peal & Co last and has a slightly less rounded, sleeker toe shape.

Depends which you prefer.

the shell is Horween as far as I am aware

Correct on both counts, have them and love them. I grabbed them when they were phasing them out, unfortunately now you have to buy from eBay or someone here on the forum.

I would grab a pair if I got the opportunity. Still regret passing up on some heavily discounted Harlech’s last year also.
