About Centre Commercial : I ordered from them twice : first order, a small bag (value 175 ish), didn't get hit. Second time, sweater value 90$ got hit with 42$ in taxes, duties, etc. Canadian customs are the worst.

Hey guys,

Just got a package in a couple days ago from Norse Store. 2 sweaters - total value of goods was ~$250. I live in Canada.

I paid $90 in duties + shipping surcharges (I think $55 was duties but I could be wrong). Definitely going to think twice about ordering from Norse Store from now on.

I had an Inverallan sweater show up from END yesterday, and FedEx didn't charge me anything when I picked it up. Living in the US, should I expect to get a bill or something later, or did I just luck out on this one?

Come to Denmark then. Here you'll be certain to pay duties almost every time (any package above the value 13 USD) and you'll also have the pleasure of paying a lot more :)

Has anyone returned an item (with DDP) to an EU retailer to only have them issue a partial refund (subtracting the cost of the DDP)?

Anybody here from outside the European Union who has ordered from Peggs & Sons and know if they mark the package with a customs friendly value?

How are duties calculated for Fedex packages shipped to the US?

My previous Meermin purchases, duties were either $20 - $35, depending whether it's CM or LM. However, my recent duty bill on the museum calfs are $84 ($6.50 advancement fee). Does this sound right?

No idea what you mean by CM or LM.
But if you look at the bill from fedex there will be a tariff code listed.
It'll be something like 64xx.xx.xx.xx where the x's are digits.
Look it up in chapter 64. http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/bychapter/index.htm
If the description is wildly different, you can try and fight fedex for a refund.

I usually figure on about 8.5% so $84 sounds high for Meermin. But ask yourself how much your time is worth to get it corrected.

Thanks, I just checked....It looks like they're charging 12.5% because Meerminn listed the leather shoes as "Shoes, other" category. Also the value is listed at $620 bucks, not the actual cost of the shoes, which is about $320.

your explanation cleared things up. greatly appreciate it.

Regarding Frans Boone, I haven't ordered... yet. But I think you can guarantee getting hit.

I like that they automatically deduct VAT. Best thing is to wait for some free international shipping to offset some of the costs of duties.

I asked if they could ship with a domestic courier, but they will not, UPS it is.
