If I was selling anything I'd call it whatever people wanted to hear it called too.

I'm very impressed that Crew have invented the Tradgina though. It would have taken me years to have thought of that.

I'm shocked that Dopey doesn't know what the Neoprep girlfriend looks like. Come to Capitol Hill sometime, it's everywhere. In New England, check the seaside resorts for good measure. Even check out the Brooks Brothers Model thread, that fits the bill too. Depending on the age/body, she'll shorten/tighten/hike up/unbutton when necessary.

As for Ivy schools and Neoprep. The Ivy league isn't what it was in the days of Trad, or even Prep. It's far more diverse, and free expression is encouraged more-so than back then. Girls go to class in their Pajama's, guys in hoodies... it's about comfort and kids don't care, at least at the undergrad level. Of course, I went to Brown, the most liberal of them all, so I can't speak for the others. I rowed crew, so I was up at 4am every morning, I didn't care to put much effort into dressing up to go to class.

Occasionally I would dress better than that in class, but not usually more dressed than those J. Crew guys (minus the tie). I've always dressed like that. Going out or going to parties, I don't think I got more dressed up than that either.

Now, the Georgetown, Duke, George Washington, Princeton, etc... guys and girls tend to dress up more when they go to class, or so I've noticed. Not being an undergrad at any of those, I can't be 100% on that, but I've seen and heard things. GWU and GU students seem to dress better than I did back in undergrad, but then again, Providence isn't DC.

Absolutely. Real Ivy League style these days isn't remotely Ivy style... "NeoIvy" is a fun idea but I think that NeoPrep has it covered.

Have a good Monday -

But enough already.

'Ello, Ol' Chum!

What is and what isn't "Trad" is indeed just like those old Punk arguments...
This little discussion is all about the stage before that debate though.
Why call it "Trad" in the first place?
Nobody ever did before.
And why have the rules of the OPH to define your new name for it?
If you're doing updated Preppy then why not be honest & call it NeoPrep?
Why does "Trad" pretend to a tradition it doesn't represent?

NeoPrep cuts to the chase without any mythology or invented BS.

It makes a change.

Hmmmm -

But you care enough to tell me that?

This really is a NeoPrep thread. "Trad" only comes into it as a sideline.
We can talk "Tradly" talk elsewhere I think and I think we really should -

You're an enthusiastic participant in the "Trad" forum yet you have no interest in what "Trad" is.

That to me is fascinating.

Just a thought:

NeoPrep actually encompasses "Trad". "Trad" just markets the post-Preppy style to a different demographic.

"Trad" certainly does not encompass NeoPrep. In fact it is very clear on that point. "Trad" is all about a (faux) 'tradition', not about playing with the influence of the OPH. Or so it claims.

Again, as a student of all this, I find that very interesting.

I think that NeoPrep & "Trad" really compliment one another. Both are great marketing opportunites for brands today.

... And the question arises that in the U.S. is it even possible to look at classic American style in our post Polo / Post OPH world without seeing the style through the eyes of Ralph & Lisa ?

Is "Trad" just kidding itself by pretending it's not? Is the honest approach of NeoPrep the best way forward?

Ideas are powerful things.

LOL!
That is actually the English 'Polari' meaning of 'to Troll' - To cruise around looking for Gay sex.

It pre-dates the Internet by decades.

I'm cool with everyone here. They do what they do, I do what I do.

I raise questions about things. That's all.

If that's a problem & makes you want to cry 'Troll' then I'm very interested in why you have such a strong reaction to my stuff.

Where's the threat to you from a few words on the Net. from me?

My stuff provides debating points, that's all.

Surely you all learned how to debate at school?

R.
