Nonsensical? It seems to me that not a few transportation services, janitors, maintenance crews, police departments, fire departments and sanitation departments wear solid navy or blue-grey uniforms.
Really. You think Roger Thornhill looks like a postman.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe any of the occupations you mention issue flannel suits as part of their uniform.
Solid blue can appear awkward with a flannel cloth...A fine stripe or a chalk one will make it more interesting... The strange thing is I love solid dark grey flannel suit..
