It has a much darker feel than the previous two, and is more mature. It is very good.

I've given it a few listens but it just ain't as catchy as the previous two.

Man, good catch. That's exactly what I was thinking.

Been going back to the past after raiding a friends CD collection while on vacation: America.

Some great old tunes in there like tin man, ventura highway and sister golden hair.

Aligator lizards in the air . . .

Wayne the best rapper? Nas new album just came out. I also think Cam is better than Wayne, his rhyme scheme just throws people off.

Too bad for Nas he's never been able to live up to Illmatic although I do like his cameos. Cam brags about the most garbagie things "My Closet/Macy's Mens Deptartment", a line soo good he used it in two songs. I've never liked him, just my taste tough, I will say early Cam was heat. Best rapper out now, I go with Ghostface plus the guy is like the Christopher Walken of rap song cameos.

Lately I've been listening to the latest offerings from:
Mars Volta
John Legend
Ghostface

Hmm... judging by the "Teen Angst" track I listened to on Pandora.... hard to say. Very different from Squarepusher. M83 almosts sounds like a slightly faster My Bloody Valentine to me. I hear some Machines of Loving Grace, too (are they still around?). Not really my thing so I cannot give you really that many suggestions (the Squarepusher thing caught my eye). Edit: Now, as for ulrich schnauss (edit: I listened to the track "A strangely isolated place")...thinking about it more... maybe some of the more atmospheric black metal (post scene-implosion, stuff like Burzum's Filosofem IIRC), or some of Steve Reich's stuff, maybe Vidna Obmana too, those have more of the more accessible soundscape-style to them. I'll have to mull it over some more. I know I probably have heard and own stuff like that you may be into, but cannot think of anything. Photophob is another interesting proposition. II'd call it DM but more lush, slower typically more ambient and atmospheric than beat-based.

wow, I appreciate the effort. I would have preferred you listen to m83's "don't save us from the flames" instead of "teen angst" since it's a more impressive song... but you get the gist

and yeah, now that I think of it, the gritty guitars and electronic sound reminds me a lot of MBV

Yeah, if you're willing to trade synth/sequencers for guitars, a lot of shoegaze stuff will fit the bill. Older stuff like Ride, Slowdive, MBV, etc.; newer stuff like the Asobi Seksu album, maybe some Dead Meadow, though that's darker/trippier.

I don't care for M83... but yah, +1 for all the bands you mentioned; as well as Chapterhouse, Lush, Swervedriver, Pale Saints, J&MC. Maybe Loop might be worth looking into too for that heavy trance/shoegaze sound? For some more darker, droney guitar heavy music, try the Black Angels debut album that came out this year, the first two BRMC albums, BJM's "Methodrone". For poppier recent stuff, Airiel, The Brother Kite, The Morning After Girls and as you mentioned Asobi Seksu are all good listens IMO.

I'll definitely check out the shoegaze recommendations you offered up, but I'm definitely avoiding the more upbeat and/or ambient sounding bands. perhaps I should just settle with the fact that I may never find a band that is identical to m83 and just wait till he drops another cd
