Would wear it over the most pale pink or pail blue shirt you can find with a medium to dark grey but not charcoal grey suit.
Works with a very dark brown jacket.
Tie looks terrible against a white shirt.

I don't get this
Stuff can look terrible all on its own, but I don't see how a white shirt can make anything look more terrible. Okay, so I'm a big fan of white shirts, so white you should be wearing sunglasses when you get near me, preferably with starch, the shirt not the glasses. Few things look better to me under a jacket then a gleaming white shirt.

A snow white shirt of quality cloth well ironed and whispered with starch is pretty rare nowadays, so rare its once- upon-a-time blandness now makes it really stand out. Open collared under a jacket or, if the situation dictates, a tie, or just with no jacket and a pair of khakis, keep it crisp and watch the passers by snap to attention. I exaggerate a bit, but on the side of goodness.

Completely agree. I picked up a full sleeve, navy, polo from Sunspel for exactly this style when the weather gets warmer.

I understand white is like a canvass of whatever you want to do, but a crispy white shirt is “strong” for lack of better word, a pale pink or ecru would make it a lot less clashing to me.

I usually associate the image of a double breasted overcoat either with an ulster collar or with a peak lapel. Have to admit that I like this one with notch lapel. A great cloth as well.

On the topic of large polo collars, in contrast, the integral collar is an interesting one that Drakes put out for 1-2 seasons now. I thought it looked pleasant under a jacket via a Korean IG.

Not my style, but I acknowledge that it doesn't look bad. The crucial point is that the collar is large enough to stay under the jacket.
