I was looking at some dress shoes, and these models caught my eye:

1. Zegna:

20134420067-2

2. Cucinelli

20094897068-2

Nice to see some more classic designs/lasts, but they are also prohibitively expensive for what you get. I'm guessing it has something to do with being a publicly traded company.

Also, nice chiseled last by Ferragamo:

20123856009-2

Nah this would be a step backwards IMO. Look at those low gorge wide lapels like something off a suit Richard Nixon would wear. Very dated and not flattering.

As for lapel width we are all allowed our preferences of course but a general convention which probably has its roots in aesthetically appealing proportions is for lapels to end one third to one half of the width of the shoulder so the original jacket falls within that scope.

It’s no secret that I lean towards slim lapels but it’s been a pet peeve of mine for ages that SF seems to **** over wide lapels as if the 1970s never happened (they did! I was there and never want to go back!) meanwhile people posting not even skinny but just slim lapels are so often given negative critique and I’ve always found that bias baffling. As is so often the case avoidance of extremes at either end of the spectrum usually brings about the best results. @WoolyLamb ’s jacket has lapels approx one third the width of the chest and certainly looks proportionate.

Can I ask for some sizing thoughts from people? I bought this camelhair cardigan from eHaberdasher in size small.

I was originally thinking an XS would fit better but that was sold out so I told myself a longer roomier fit would work better for this style. I love the cardigan (pretty sure it's made by William Lockie) but am wondering if it's way too big.

It's actually not bad. A little slouchy, but it works with a garment like that.

What @othertravel said. Looks slouchy (in a good way) and not too oversized. How does it look when buttoned?

An XS would probably still fit, and have less slouch, but wouldn't necessarily be better.....

Also, put some shoes on (or at least socks) ;)

In the alternate universe that is StyleForum, perhaps THAT what the real reason for all the hubbub!

I jest, of course...but

Just an appreciation for some "classic" lasts on fashion brands. If I was going to spend that much money on shoes, it would be for Lobbs, Aubercy, etc...

Looks great. That kind of sweater looks fine a little drapey.

I've gone with C&J exclusively now. Got the lasts down and know exactly what works.

Seeing as how I was only modeling the cardigan, I'm surprised I was even wearing pants...
