The issue I see is the person that has the 9EE that I need actually needs an 8EE. So the only way this will work is if many ppl get together to make swaps happen.

Yup that is the inherent flaw in that particular system.

I think that's actually going a little above and beyond there, whether it's Massdrop or Carmina eating the cost. I was expecting to return it for a refund and MAYBE get a discount coupon or something.

Yea I have to say a full refund and keep the shoes a stand up way to ensure customer satisfaction. I mean the shoes don't fit but if some deals can be made to swap things out and get you what you ordered or if not you sell what you have and are cash positive really the best possible outcome of this whole mess.

Note the Rain last is a somewhat wide last that in D width is just a bit under E width compared to many other maker's lasts.
