What does an i7 have to do with having a lot music / movies? :puzzled:

It doesn't. Was just saying no need for i7 nor a bigger SSD if she's is moving up from a macbook, unless she has a lot of music/movies.

+1. i7 is worthless and will go even further to killing the already measly battery life.

How in the **** did you break her laptop?

no comment. came back with the basic 13" Pro. It's essentially the same as the white 2.4 core duo she had, so all good. She had no content on her computer, no files or anything, just some bookmarks and security keys, so didn't need any storage or anything. Just a web browser.

That's exactly what the Air is for. Sounds like it would be perfect for her.

yeah I realized that, but three things pushed me to the Pro; a) the 13" Pro i5 is just the same thing that she had, which was what she wanted - if they still sold the white MacBook she would've wanted that - didn't want to risk getting something new like the Air and have her feel it was 'off' somehow, and she has a carry case for the MB size already anyway, b) i was browsing Macrumors in the car and the Pro was updated 80 some days ago, while the Air hasn't been updated in a half year, and c) the 13" Pro was about $150 cheaper, and the cheapest portable they had.

Honestly, I'd take her to the store with you and let her choose it. At that price point, its not even a contest. You don't realize how great the light weight of the Air is until you've used it for a bit. Then, you never want to go back.

Wait, why did you get a Pro? I'm guessing the real reason is to save $100 over the MBA?

:deadhorse: My gf has a 2006 Macbook in white, doesn't even use the full 60GB hard drive space on it. Most girls I know do not hoard music, I can't think of any non-technical woman who would need a 320gb hard drive or whatver comes with a Pro...:deadhorse:

Also at least 50% of non-technical people don't know the difference between RAM and drive space. They think 320gb means it is faster. :foo:

she doesn't have a single Mp3 on her computer. She had a big iPod touch with a bunch of music on it, but how she got music on there in the first place, I have no idea. Also, I have no idea where that iPod went. Lots of mysteries not worth paining over.

She was happy with the Pro, btw.
