Kimchi and its affects on an entire fridge

Ok, short of buying a small kimchi specific refrigerator, how does one go about securely storing this stuff? My wife really enjoys this, unfortunately I have a strong sense of smell. The entire contents of a refrigerator can be consumed by the kimchi odor in little time. She usually stores it on a plate with saran wrap or in a tupperware container.

Advise please.

I store kimchi in a canning jar and find it does a good job containing the smell.

LSeca, are you Korean? or is your wife Korean?

it is a problem for us as well, we keep the jars as tightly sealed as possible even strapping a saran wrap around the top with a rubber band around it.
but the stench is strong sometimes, depending on the kimchi we have at the time.

however, i really don't mind it. it brings nostalgic feelings of home. just we try not to keep the fridge door open too long, letting the stench out into the kitchen and into the dining room.

I am white and my wife is 1/2 Japanese, my friend. She has many Korean friends and has Kimchi almost daily, I am still developing a taste for it. She tends to like alot of Korean dishes.

Off topic, i do like Chumpone (spelling?) quit a bit...it is like a hot soup with alot of different items thrown in.

Yeesh. Doesn't it make other stuff in the fridge kimchi-ish? Like butter?

The saran wrap helps too.... don't forget.

If she doesn't already buy kimchi in a jar, buy it once in a jar and use the jar over and over. Buying kimchi without raw oysters helps.

this is the case with alot of korean families or families who prepare alot of korean food.

we just dont notice it anymore. until a western guest shows up at the door, we get self-conscious about it.
we run around panicking and spraying lysol and febreze.
what we dont know is that most western guests (at least from my experience) dont mind the smell in the air or are familiar with it as well.

I love kimchi but I can only find them at Korean restaurant. Do you guys make it your own, or there's ready-made at the stores?

there are alot of korean supermarkets in Los angeles and orange county areas of california.
really depends on where you live.

it is pretty hard to make kimchi yourself and make it taste good AND keep a clean bodily scent.

in the motherland, there are thousands of ahjumahs that make kimchis daily or weekly basis, with their bare hands and arms and sometimes their arms are literally stained orange even after cleaning.
