So I'm in the camp that says see if you can reason a bit more with him (considering as you say, he suggested against the trial shoe fitting). While there is no guarantee you'd order from him again even if this gets resolved to your satisfaction, how likely are you to, if it doesn't?

I agree that there is no way on this earth that a bespoke handmade shoe should draw blood. I am sure the maker would be mortified to read this thread. If it was me I would insist you send them back, no arguments. But then I am a very strict shoemaker!!!
