Jacket Vent Length

Any opinions on what a proper length should be for a jacket with side vents?

I wear a 38S and I noticed that the vents on my jackets range from 8.5" to 9.75." To me, at least, the shorter vents look kind of off. Only on SF would somebody care about this.

My vents range from 6 to 12 inches, the 6-inch vent being from a vintage 60s sports coat. I prefer 12-inch side vents though I'm sure a lot of people would find that too long. For vents to be that long the jacket needs to be a traditional length. Short trendy cuts are best with 8-inch vents.
