I really hope the "$8.95 flat rate shipping & free shipping for orders over $175" thing is something they're trying out with an intention to make it the norm. That's the only problem I ever had with J. Crew's site - shipping rates are ridiculous without a coupon. It's 2011 - Gilt updated their (equally ridiculous) shipping policy, J. Crew should too.

I think that is their updated policy; at least Gap Inc. established a $7 flat rate for orders over $50.

I have been receiving the J. Crew emails and catalogs since last December, but I have yet to receive any unique discount codes; is this because I have only made several purchases?

Yeah, I just got my Chippewa's in the mail from J. Crew. I really like them. A lot like the Chippewa "GQ" boot but much better leather and the sole is better. At about 200 bucks, I think they're not a bad value either. Cheaper than similar Red Wings.

Sizing is the same as other Chippewa boots. For me it's the same as Red Wing heritage boot sizing.

cordovan is not a color

bs, cordovan is a color (usually referring to deep burgundy like color #8 from Alden) as well as a type of horsehide leather.

Those boots look nice, probably my favorite from Chippewa.

You're not wrong, Taco, it kinda depends on the Red Wing comparison. They are a touch longer for me like the Iron Rangers are, longer than the moc toe Red Wings like the 875. I wear the same size in all of them though. Your mileage may vary.

Per allenedmonds.com - 13. What is shell cordovan leather?

Cordovan is often erroneously thought to describe a color akin to burgundy. However, cordovan – name after Cordova, Spain where the leather first originated – is actually one of the world's most unique leathers. Prized for its exceptional softness, durability and fine grain, cordovan is made from the inner layer of horsehide. A six-month tanning process brings out a beautiful luster that only improves with age. Cordovan's dense structure also makes it especially water-resistant.

The sizing is the same as Red Wing Heritage(IR, at least) and Wolverine 1000 mile. As an aside, I tried on the J.Crew Red Wing Beckman and felt that it was not sized the same as normal Red Wings.

I used the 20% Amex discount, which brought these boots to $158. I'm going to try to go to the store and stack the 15% student discount on top of that.

I was expecting this boot to be more similar to the Katahdin boot because, well, it's the same boot. However, this boot didn't come with an insole and the footbead is leather like a RW, which I like.

The box says Cordovan vamp and top leather. I think we're getting into semantics here, but Wikipedia says "Cordovan is a rich shade of burgundy and a dark shade of rose. Cordovan takes its name from the city of Cordoba, Spain, where the production of shell cordovan leather was first practiced by the Visigoths in the seventh century."

A while back people were saying that you cant use your student discount w/ red phone orders anymore. Is this still case? I just went ahead and order a pair online but I wouldnt mind saving a few bucks.
