Is it okay to wear skinny ties with a wide spread collar?

Or it's only suitable for small spread collar (I do apologize if I used the wrong terms)?

I wouldn't. It would look unbalanced. If you're curious and asking before you make a purchase, I'd say hold off. If you have a skinny tie and a wide spread collar, put it on, look in the mirror and decide for yourself. In a particular instance, with a certain shirt/tie/jacket, it may look okay.

I think this depends on the knot you use with the tie. A full windsor knot gives some bulk at the neck and balances out the spread. Probably looks a little better with a two inch rather than a 3 inch collar.

Only if you want to look silly. Many try it, still looks bad IMO.

I'm not sure that's what the OP means by "skinny tie". These are small knots on fairly regular ties

Some early sixties photos have men with ties much skinnier than their shirt collars would suggest.

Later in in the decade, the disproportion was reversed.

To my eye, Charles' shirt and tie combination looks terrible, and the expression on Charles' face suggests either he thinks so too or his tie is simply too tight.

Case by case basis. I would say that depending on the gorge, the actual collar & tie idths and the knot used, it could work.

As a general rule, I'd agree with most people here. More often than not, it doesn't look right - but I've seen it pulled off (with a full-windsor knot no less), but only in a more casual outfit. But given the casual caveat, I agree with Soph that a triple 4-in-hand would work better.

I haven't made my purchase yet. I'm just asking now. I guess skinny ties should be paired with a small collar shirt if I were to just tie it with a four-in-hand knot?
