I can't wear printed ties!

Whilst I still prefer woven ties for the texture and detail, I recently extended a small branch to the island of printed ties. When tied in a Plattsburgh knot, they look amazing.

Delicate, though.

My business dress isn't truly conservative, so take my comments in that light, but I enjoy many print ties alongside my wovens. Hermes and Liberty are probably my faves - I like the whimsical designs and think they add a bit of joy to an outfit.

For simple geometric or stripe designs, woven is my preference because of the interest added by the texture. But for more intricate or whimsical designs, a nice print can be very pretty.

Here, for your amusement, are some very ancient woven ties. I think they date from the 30s or the 20s. Needless to say, I wear them rarely...and carefully. I deal with the short length issue by wearing them under a v neck sweater.

I don't know who made most of them. The second from left is labeled Malboro, the others have no label.

since everyone is posting up ties, i took a picture of mine as well.

i just realized i actually have more printed than woven, oh well. i dont wear them often so i didnt know

some are garish, some from the spring fashion statement of pinks and hot colors are in period.

i dont have any known names like charvet, FIH, or carlo franco? ties.

alot are no names , cheap ones from macys for 7 dollars, the brown one is armani, the blue /brown stripe is facconable, the blue and orange is belanciaga, and the newest one is the nicky tie in midnight blue and white squares.

I recently bought my first printed tie in a long time, and it's a "cute" print at that. Zebras on a burnt orange background, from Brooks. It's the type of thing I normally dislike, but this one caught my fancy, and didn't cost much. I don't know where or if I'll wear it, but I figure there's room in my closet for it. But I still can't imagine paying Hermes prices for a cute tie.
