I'm going to assume, right off the bat, that you spent a lot of money on an item that's also likely to be your favourite, be it a watch, shoes, or suit. Chances are, you want to wear the item everywhere, as long as the situation is appropriate. Yet, with this much use, you're exposing it to safe and rough environments, hence increasing the chances of damaging the item. What do you do in this dilemma? Limit the use of the item, or just rough it?
My item is a watch. It is suitable in a business environment (except the more uptight ones that call for a more understated time piece), but casual enough for everyday wear (my definition of casual is button up shirt, slim jeans, and a pair of boots or basic white sneakers). Naturally, I want to wear it everywhere since I enjoy it so much, but I'm always concerned about going too rough on it.
